Agarthans in the past
Agarthans (アガルタ人 , Agaruta Hito) are a subspecies of humans that appears in Children Who Chase Lost Voices.
Origin[]
In the past, the Quetzalcoatl were once worshiped by ancient humans. At some point, the mysterious creatures realized that humans had matured enough and could survive without their guide, so they retreated to an underground realm called Agartha. A few clans of humans chose to follow them and resettled in Agartha. They became Agarthans.
History[]
Over time, the Agarthans built for themselves a glorious and wealthy kingdom, more than anywhere on the surface. However, for centuries, armies from the surface came and plundered, bringing death and destruction with them. The civilization of the Agarthans was destroyed, and only a few small villages remained.
Agarthans call the people on the surface Topsiders.
Physiology[]
Like the Quetzalcoatl, the Agarthans are unable to stand the polluted air on the surface for a long time.
They and Topsiders can breed and produce healthy hybrid offspring.
