Cub is a brown dog that Kanae found on the seashore when she was in Grade Six. She named it after her sister's motorbike, as she was envious of it.

In 2008, Cub accompanied Kanae's nephews to the beach, but it was too strong for them to handle. They suggested her to find another dog smaller, like Pii-chan next door, but Kanae objected and states that Cub was the cutest of all. She then let it drink some water while talking to herself about the past.
