Miho Sumida (澄田 美穂, Sumida Miho) is a minor character in 5 Centimeters per Second. According to Japanese traditions, her married name must be Miho Nakamura (中村 美穂, Nakamura Miho).
Background[]
Miho is 8 years older than her younger sister. She attended a university in Shizuoka, where she got her driving liscene at nineteen. During her university years, she was in the surfing club, which inspired Kanae to become a surfer herself. After graduation, she quickly returned to the island, an act that earned her Kanae's admiration.
She later taught at Kanae's school, which caused her younger sister nervous.
Miho once dated a man named Kobayashi who came to the island back with her, and even planned to marry him, but she eventually called it off.
In 5 Centimeters per Second[]
During Kanae's last year of high school, Miho and her mother were worried by her indecision of the future. She sometimes watched her sister practice surfing at a nearby beach.
In 5 Centimeters per Second manga[]
Ten years later, she was married to her colleague Nakamura and was then pregnant with their third child. Realizing that her younger sister was still longing for Takaki Tōno, Miho convinced her to go to Tokyo and find him.
