Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower (モード学園コクーンタワー, Mōdo gakuen kokūn tawā) is a 204-metre building located in Tokyo, Japan. As an iconic building of Shinjuku, it has featured prominently in many movies by Makoto Shinkai.

History[]

Built on the former site of the now demolished Asahi Mutual Life Insurance Company headquarters, construction of the Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower began in May 2006 and was completed in October 2008. It is is the second-tallest educational building in the world and is the 17th-tallest building in Tokyo.

While it didn't appear in 5 Centimeters per Second as its construction was completed after the film's release, it appears in 5 Centimeters per Second manga. On a snowy night at the end of 2007, as Takaki Tōno walks home after work, he stops at the intersection behind Shinjuku Police Station and looks up at the buildings of Shinjuku, which includes Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower.
