The stationed was opened on July 16, 1885. It had hosted Kisoba, a stand-up soba shop since 1950s, which will be closed down on January 14, 2022.

After a long delay at Nogi Station, Takaki Tōno's train arrived at this station at 7:45pm, and he needed to go to platform 6 to transfer to Ryomo Line and head to Iwafune Station. However, due to the continuous snowfall outside, his next train was late about 30 minutes.
While waiting for the train, Takaki came to a vending machine to buy a drink, but as he took his wallet out of pocket, the letter for Akari fell out and was blown away.

On November 16, 2007, before Takaki and Risa Mizuno arrived at Iwafune, they briefly stopped at this station. As he told her he had once visited this place, his memories began to surge.
