Shinji Makino (牧野真司, Makino Shinji) is a minor character in The Garden of Words novel. He is Shōko Aizawa's ex-boyfriend.
Overview[]
Appearance[]
He is described to be tall and handsome, which makes him popular in school.
Personality[]
Initially appearing to be polite and trustful, Makino is in fact a spoiled, arbitrary playboy, merely playing with women's feelings. He dictated Shōko Aizawa (Makino's lover) that she must keep her virginity until his 17th birthday, and claimed he doesn't want his girl to be used by any other man before he did.
Background[]
Makino was the captain of the Chiyoda High School's basketball team supervised by Sōichirō Ito, but he has quit in the 2nd semester of Grade 12.
One year older than Shōko Aizawa, he began to date her in his 12th Grade. Declaring that he is "very dictative to his girlfriends", Makino constantly demanded Aizawa to change her hairstyles, not caring what would damage her hair.
One day, Makino approached Yukari Yukino, but he was rejected by her. After Aizawa revealed that she saw what happened, Makino gradually distanced himself from his girlfriend, and cut all contact with Shoko in the 2nd semester of his 12th Grade. Meanwhile, it appears that Makino began to spread false rumors about his affair with Yukino to damage her reputation, which is exacerbated by Aizawa's behavior and ultimately caused Yukino to be fired.
