Shinjuku Station's South Exit

Shinjuku Station (新宿駅, Shinjuku-eki) is a railway station in Shinjuku and Shibuya, Tokyo. It appears in 5 Centimeters per Second, The Garden of Words, Your Name. and Weathering with You.

History[]

Shinjuku Station opened in 1885 as a stop on Japan Railway's Akabane-Shinagawa line (now part of the Yamanote Line). It is the world's busiest transport hub with 51 platforms and 200 exits, serving about 3.64 million people per day (2007).

In 5 Centimeters per Second[]

This was Takaki Tōno's first stop after departing from Gōtokuji Station on his trip to meet Akari Shinohara in Iwafune. After washing his face in a bathroom, he switched to another train to head for the next stop.

In 2018, Takaki was seen smoking on a footpath right to the south of the station.

On September 5, 2016, Mitsuha Miyamizu in Taki Tachibana's body, while trying to get to his school, boarded a train to this station and emerged from the South Exit as she was stunned by the liveliness of Tokyo.

On April 8, 2022, Taki stopped at this station after seeing Mitsuha and ran wildly to find her.

In Weathering with You[]

After running out of money, Hodaka Morishima took shelter in the station but he was chased away by the guards. A few weeks later, he visited MocA Tokyo in LUMINE 2, a shopping mall by the station, to buy a gift for Hina Amano.
