Tsubame Iwato (岩戸椿芽, Iwato Tsubame) is a character in Suzume. She is the late mother of Suzume Iwato.

Tsubame Iwato was born on March 10, 1977 and was six years older than her sister Tamaki Iwato. As a single mother, Tsubame gave birth to Suzume and raised her on her own in Akamae, Iwate. On May 24, 2010, she crafted a wooden chair as a birthday gift to her daughter. She died on March 11, 2011 in the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Etymology[]
- The name Tsubame means "camellia flower" (椿) (tsuba) and "bud, sprout" (芽) (me).
- Tsubame's surname Iwato means "rock" (岩) (iwa) and "door" (戸) (to).
