An American live-action adaption of Your Name. was announced in September 2017.
Synopsis[]
A young Native American woman living in a rural area and a young man from Chicago discover they are magically and intermittently swapping bodies. When a disaster threatens to upend their lives, they must journey to meet and save their worlds.[1]
Production[]
The film is being produced by J. J. Abrams's Bad Robot Productions, with the production team includes Lindsey Weber and Genki Kawamura. In February 2019, it was announced that Marc Webb would be the director of the film.[2] The film was written by Eric Heisserer, who revealed that the Japanese right holders wanted the film to be made from the western point of view.[3] On September 18, 2020, it was announced that Lee Isaac Chung had taken over the directorial and writing duties, working off the draft by Emily V. Gordon.[4] In July 2021, it was reported that Lee Isaac Chung had left the position and the producers were looking for new candidates. On November 1, 2022, Carlos López Estrada was announced to be the director and scriptwriter of the movie.[5] As of October 2023, producer Genki is still working on the script along with Carlos. He explained that the progress was hindered by the COVID pandemic and the 2023 strikes in Hollywood.[6]
